Various – RMR001

Various RMR001 RM RecordsThe first-ever release from a brand new label here. RM Records is the brainchild of UK trio LongPlay (Andy King, Danny Langan and Dave Winney) and based in London, and they make their debut with this pleasingly varied four-track V/A.

M.A.X & Lloyd are up first with Arizona, a pulsating, prog-tinged affair with a sampled, spoken male vocal and great dark, ominous synth surges. LongPlay themselves give us What A Day, a driving, heads-down house groover topped (eventually) by a female jazz vocal. James Dexter’s Days That Count follows, a chunky tech- and disco-tinged cut with wonky piano chords and a bass throb to die for, while finally Alex Agore serves up Deeper, a Rhodes-driven garage jam complete with “deeper!” female vocal.

The latter two stand out particularly, but to be fair the whole EP’s pretty damn good… for a label debut, it’s stunning.
