Todd Terry & Roland Clark – Tee’s Church

September 26, 2015 in Singles

Todd Terry & Roland Clark Tee's Church InHouse RecordsTwo revered house veterans team up on this single-track release, and the results might suprise you…

Sure, there are the tuff, crisp beats you’d expect from Todd, and a full-lunged, preacher-style vocal of the kind that’s graced many a Clark production. What you might not be expecting, though, is the big fuck-off warping speed garage bassline that drops around the 1:30 mark.

When it does, it’s game over… this is a BEAST of a tune.

Alexander Technique ft Mark Alston – Walking Away

April 25, 2015 in Singles

Alexander Technique ft Mark Alston Walking Away Drop ReadyWe kick off tonight with the very first release from a brand new label, New York-based Drop Ready.

On the A-side, Walking Away is a contemporary-style (deep-ish) houser with a nice chunky bassline and a looping, soulful male “every time I love you, you keep walking away” vocal. Flip it over and you’ll find the solitary remix, which comes from no less a personage than Todd Terry. His mix takes a while to build, but when it does it comes toting shuffling percussion and an even ruder bassline than the A.

A solid start for Drop Ready, then… and having Todd ‘the God’ on-side shouldn’t do them any harm either!

Todd Terry – Love Acid

April 9, 2014 in Singles

Todd Terry Love Acid Frole RecordsLike Kerri Chandler and DJ Sneak, Todd The God’s career seems to gotten something of a fillip out of the current resurgence of interest in classic house sounds. Which can only be a good thing!

Three mixes of Love Acid to choose from. Todd’s original is a bleepy, squelchy affair driven along by some seriously ruff-edged kicks and topped by sweet-sounding female snips, while French producer Julien Sandre gets the sirens out on his rave-tinged remix. It’s Dudley Strangeways who takes the gold in this reviewer’s eyes, though, as he turns in a mellower, late-night rub that’ll have lovers of proper deep house in raptures.

About: This comes on Italy’s Frole Records, who can be found on Facebook, on Soundcloud or at their own website.

PS: Bonus fascinating fact of the day: I once gave Todd Terry an England football shirt. This is actually true.
