Various – Best Of Innocent Music Vol 2

September 28, 2015 in Albums

Best Of Innocent Music Vol 2Regular readers will know I’m generally a fan of Innocent Music’s take on deep techno and minimal anyway, but with this second ‘best of’ comp the Slovenian label have excelled themselves.

There are 14 tracks in total, from a mix of names both familiar (Gaetano C, Rodrigo DP, Aney F, White Brothers) and less so – and not a duff cut in sight. Be warned, this album isn’t for the faint-hearted – listening to it in, ahem, an ‘altered’ frame of mind could seriously mess with your head and general sense of well-being! But if cavernous beats, distorted vox, twitchy snares, white noise, industrial FX, dystopian soundscapes and an overall air of brooding menace and paranoia sound like your idea of a good time, then step right on in, because if you like it deep, dark and techy you’re gonna love this…

Rodrigo DP & Knowbru – Memory EP

December 3, 2014 in Singles

Rodrigo DP & Knowbru Memory EP Innocent Music DeepDeeper shades of house/techno here, on what is only the fourth release from a new offshoot of Slovenia’s Innocent Music called, appropriately enough, Innocent Music Deep.

The Buenos Aires duo of Rodrigo DP & Knowbru are at the controls, serving up three original cuts. Losing Memory is up first, a languid, instrumental affair with dub and tech elements balanced nicely. The Trip Goes On is a little more driving yet still has a fairly laidback, cinematic feel, with downpitched spoken male vox buried deep in in the mix. Taking the gold for yours truly though is We Don’t Know, 6m 37s of intricately shufflin’ beats, droning synth tones, deep techno-style FX and lashings of reverb. Sonic Radox for stoned ravers!

Rodrigo DP – My Alien Bass EP

July 3, 2014 in Singles

Rodrigo DP My Alien Bass EP Innocent MusicWe stay in deep techno pastures but up the pace a little, with this four-track/five-mix EP from 22-year-old Argentinean producer Rodrigo DP.

My Alien Bass itself leads the charge, a concoction of off-kilter beats, intricately layered FX and hefty sub-bass that hits that sweet spot where a track’ll work on both the sofa and the dancefloor perfectly. Kevin Schwazer then gives us a Limited Remix that takes the track down a slightly glitchier route. Elsewhere on the EP, Freedom Is Not A Crime is a chunky afterhours joint with sampled psychobabble vox, Guatama is a more ‘warm-up’ kinda cut with plenty of dark atmospherics but also with a twisted funk all of its own, while Imaginary Effect is one for the straight-up techno lovers, albeit still pretty groovy.

The original of My Alien Bass and Freedom Is Not A Crime are the reasons this is featured here, though.
