Various – Big Fist Ibiza Sampler 2013

July 17, 2013 in Singles

Big Fist Ibiza 2013Something of a surprise from Big Fist now, as the label normally known for tough tech-house and techno serve up an EP of deeper, housier grooves.

Paul Jamez’s The Light (nothing to do with the Michelle Weeks classic of the same name, BTW) is one highlight with its rumblin’, buzzin’ b-line and joyously old-school female vocal, Stereo Cartel’s rumbunctious terrace-disco workout Just Freakin’ another. Cuts from Deep Faith, John James, Mindform and PJC Project make up the rest of the EP, which as a whole should serve you nicely if you were looking for some solid, tracky shizzle to fill those outdoor summer sets.

PJC – Gna Get High/That Road

November 7, 2011 in Singles

Well it’s Monday again… a nuisance, I find, Mondays. So let’s lift all our drooping spirits by getting straight in the groove with some straight-up jackin’ house music.

A simple two-track affair, this one. Gna Get High owes a heavy debt to classic NYC-style house, with a little bit of a Joey Negro-esque disco touch on top… ‘simple but effective’, I think is the phrase here. On the flip, meanwhile, That Road is a slightly darker n’ drummier affair with lots of filter action – so we’re in New York again, this time gettin’ down to Junior circa 1995.

Like I said, just some straight-up jackin’ house to get the blood pumping.

About: This is on Quadraphonic Recordings, who I don’t know HUGE amounts about to be honest but who can be found on MySpace and Facebook if you want to do some digging… and oh, look! In the Facebook photos there’s a review I wrote of a previous release, where I said they were Spanish. So I guess they must be. I don’t just make this shit up, you know. Well, not stuff like that, anyway.

PJC Project – Tiger Spider EP

August 15, 2011 in Singles

Okay, let’s kick off the TIWWD week with some good old-fashioned straight-up house music, courtesy of PJC Project.

Messing With My Mind is a deep-ish cut with vocodered vox… it’s good but not essential, TBH. The title cut Tiger Spider is better, though, a slowly-building deep house dancefloor groove with a hefty shot of disco juice coursing through its veins… but the REAL treat here is Gonna, a tuff-but-soulful number busting some lush piano chords and chopped-up fem vox.
What we’re Gonna do right here is go back… see what I did there?

About: Don’t know much about the label this is on, Quadraphonic, other than that they’re UK-based. They’re on Facebook and MySpace but boys, some actual information would help!
