Various – Different Attitudes For The Summer 2015

July 12, 2015 in Albums

Different Attitudes For The Summer 2015Another strong compilation set from Different Attitudes here, featuring 10 deep/tech house nuggets from as many different artists.

3Kilo’s Feel It gets the ball rolling in contemporary-style deep house fashion, followed by 4BeatClub’s slow-chuggin’, almost new beat-ish Automaton. Alek Soltirov’s Pulsar Wind rocks sparse drums and busy synths, while Alternate Roots bring a little classic house/garage flava with the female-vocalled, funk-fuelled Different Spaces. Cartoon’s Dive Me sees us back in more contemporary territory with its soulful male vox and fat, squelchy bass, and we stay there for Jon Sweetname’s Muzungu, a synthier cut. Lee Mace’s Liquid Love with its dark, rumbling bass, skippy beats and sweet fem vox is where the garage lovers will want to head first, while if it’s bouncy M1 vibes you’re after look no further than Nacho Riveros’s Let’s Dance. Next To You by Revivis is a crunchy, techy and slightly wonkified affair topped with more soulful male vox, and finally Underfloor’s B.O.W plays us out in trippy, heads-down 4am fashion.

Something for everyone, really… but the Alternate Roots, Lee Mace, 4BeatClub and Nacho Riveros offerings stand out for this reviewer.

Out: This week on Traxsource, everywhere else from 20 July

PS: The more observant among you may notice that the tracks are listed here in alphabetical order of artist, which is a tad unusual… but I checked and that does appear to be the order they’re in.

Jero Nougues – The Traveler EP

April 12, 2014 in Singles

Jero Nougues The Traveler 5 And DimeTwo tracks in a total of five mixes make up this latest EP from Denver-based 5 And Dime Recordings.

Argentina’s Jero Nougues is the man at the controls. His first original, In My Mind, is a laidback deep house groove with a spoken male “let me tell you why you’re here” vocal atop lush, lazy keys. Fellow Argentinian Nacho Riveros’s remix is quite similar, but has slightly tuffer drums and some wibbly synths that’d make this the pick for afterhours play, while Tom Lown’s rub is the deepest and most stripped-back of the three. Nougues’ other original is 2am, again a fairly mellow cut that chugs along nicely accompanied by crowd noise and whooshy synths, while finally the Portofino Sunrise mix of the same is an even more mellow variation on the same theme.

Nice gentle vibes all round, but it’s Tom’s rub of In My Mind that takes the gold for me here.

Rishi K – True Belief

January 24, 2014 in Singles

Rishi K True Belief Savoir Faire MusiqueFirst up tonight is a new offering from a producer who needs no introduction to TIWWD readers, Rishi K, coming on an equally familiar label, Savoir Faire Musique.

Three mixes of True Belief to choose from. The original’s deep, chunky and (as is so often Rishi’s wont) just a lil’ bit proggy round the edges, coming topped with breathy female vocal snips and subdued space disco stabs. The two remixes then both come from Jero Nougues & Nacho Riveros, their Deep Mix not really needing much more explanation while their Midnight Mix has a slightly more garage-y/disco-y vibe.

Superb stuff all round but then what else would you expect?

Out: This week

M-Capio – We’re Just Passing Through

January 2, 2014 in Singles

M-Capio We're Just Passing Through Aspect AudioFour quite varied mixes on offer of this latest from UK producer M-Capio.

In its Original form, We’re Just Passing Through is a pleasantly lolloping deep house roller with both disco and lounge-y overtones. Lee Hodge’s remix is a more spangled, proggy affair, while Nacho Riveros goes for a Balearic-ish fusion of deep and prog flavas. Bringing the EP to a close is the Luv Boutique Dub, an afterhours-friendly, stripped-back pass powered along by tuff, raw percussion.

Again, it’s the Original for me here, but the Nacho Riveros rub comes a close second.

Out: Yesterday

About: This comes on Aspect Audio, who can be found on Facebook or at their own website.

Nacho Riveros – Messenger EP

March 31, 2013 in Singles

Nacho Riveros Messenger EP 5 And DimeIs it just me, or has it been a little while since Denver-based label 5 And Dime featured on here?

Well, no matter cos they’re here now, with a three-track, four-mix EP of archetypical 5 And Dime tackle: that is to say, melodic, very deep house music of the finest calibre. It’s the lounge-y 7th Avenue that gets the remix treatment, Luv Boutique turning in Deep Pass Remix that beefs up the drums just a smidgeon for the deepest of dancefloors; elsewhere, Level 66 is a smooth n’ sumptuous small hours groover for the more sophisticated floors, sporting what sounds like a snatch of vocal from Strictly classic The Warning, while Messenger itself is an ultra-deep, dubby affair, albeit still with solid 4/4 kicks for dancefloor appeal.

Quality stuff as ever, from one of the finest labels for proper deep house around right now.
