Nacho Marco – Outside/Tunnels

December 20, 2015 in Singles

Nacho Marco Outside:Tunnels Madhouse RecordsA nice simple-two tracker here from Spanish producer Nacho Marco, coming on Kerri Chandler’s Madhouse Records.

On the A, Outside sports a cool, throbbing 303-ish bassline which it marries to cut-up fem vox, exuberant stabby pianos and nice shuffly Jersey beats, the end result being a track that’ll slay ’em on the more traditionally-minded dancefloors. Flip it over to find Tunnels, an instrumental affair that starts out a little darker but soon adds more lush garage-y keys and then, later on, some soaring, parping sax.

Think the classic Jersey garage sound given a 2015 makeover and you’ve pretty much got the idea here… quality stuff!

Pete Dafeet – Wife

May 17, 2015 in Singles

Pete Dafeet Wife Lost My DogIf you’re anything like me, then the news that Lost My Dog is to close this year leaves something of a void in your soul… but for now you can console yourself with this fine slab from co-owner Pete Dafeet.

Three mixes of Wife to choose from, plus two of The Root, The Soul. The title cut in its original form evinces a nostalgia for piano house days of yore, while Nacho Marco heads even further back in time with a fat n’ squelchy acid rub. The third mix is a simple radio edit so we can turn our attention to The Root, The Soul, again simply presented in Extended and Radio mix forms, which is a soulfully-inclined deep houser with male vox, hip-swaying bass and soaring pads.

Can’t decide whether it’s the original or Nacho Marco mix of Wife that I like best; either way we need to be treasuring LMD releases cos there aren’t going to be many more of ’em. <Sniff>

Nacho Marco/Roberto Rodriguez – 10 By Ten

March 26, 2015 in Singles

Nacho Marco Roberto Rodgriguez 10 By Ten Lazy Days RecordingsA split release here from Fred Everything’s Lazy Days Recordings, the second in a series of EPs released to mark the label’s 10th birthday.

On the A, Nacho Marco gives us That Smile, one-part chilled Balearic beats and tinkling ivories to one part squelching acid, and do my ears deceive me or is that a very familiar “you know how to love me” vocal sample buried deep in the mix too? Flip it over and Finland’s Roberto Rodriguez serves up Giving It All, a down n’ funky houser a big hip-swayin’ b-line, cut-up fem vox and, as the track progresses, soulful BVs and some trippy synth frills.

Quality stuff that shows why the label have lasted so long! It also happens to be their 50th release, so congrats to Fred and the crew on the double landmark.

About: Lazy Days Recordings do have a  Soundcloud page and a website but there doesn’t seem to be much going on at either right now… here’s their podcast page though, which is something.

Raw District ft Ladybird – Those Lies

June 22, 2014 in Singles

Raw District Those Lies Brique RougeUsed to love David Duriez’s Brique Rouge imprint back in their early 00s heyday, so the news that they’re back in the game – after not releasing anything since 2008 – was very welcome in these parts. And now here’s their first release since the relaunch.

In its original form, Those Lies is a quite ‘big room’ deep/tech houser topped with a soulful vocal from Ladybird (the French chanteuse best known for her work with Soldiers Of Twilight). But there are plenty of mixes to choose from, ranging from the lazy, summery Roots Mix to a drummier pass from Nacho Marco to – my pick – an uncompromising David Duriez Acid Dub, which fait exactement ce qu’il dit sur la boîte.

Nacho Marco – You Got To Know EP

June 14, 2014 in Singles

Nacho Marco You Got To Know EP Madhouse RecordsMore very fine deep house vibes on this latest from Kerri Chandler’s Madhouse stable, coming from Spanish producer and Loudeast Records boss Nacho Marco, who’s featured on here before with releases on King Street and Lost My Dog.

You Got To Know itself is up first, an unhurried, lolloping, percussion-led groove topped with shimmering synths and a garage-y female vocal intoning the title. Time is a deeper, more sumptuous and Jersey-ish proposal with soulful male vocal snips, insistent Rhodes chords and a pulsing bassline… it’s essentially a post-club/home listening affair but the drums are lively enough that it could work on the dancefloor either very early or very late on.

Good as those two are, though, the killer here is Middays. Sitting right on the cusp of deep house and deep gar-ahge, Middays is ruddy bloomin’ flippin’ gorgeous. And I’m not even going to describe it any more than that, because frankly you need to go buy it RIGHT THIS VERY SECOND. So you’ll find out soon enough…

Pete Dafeet Family Affair Lost My Dog

It’s been a long day so I’m keep this kinda quick. Some facts:

1. Lost My Dog is without a doubt one of the UK’s best-loved deep house labels
2. Pete Dafeet is one of the three jolly affable fellows that own and run it, and also one of the label’s most prolific producers.
3. Here, he seamlessly blends together 14 of his contributions – taking in some forthcoming bullets as well as lots of previously unreleased mixes of back catalogue shizzle – inna superstar DJ in the area mashin’ it up throwin’ it down and rockin’ down the house kinda stylee.
4. Or, you can buy it digitally, in which case you get 18 tracks in all their full-length glory, without the above turntable frolics. In case you fancied doing some of that yourself. I think they’ve still got some of the three vinyl samplers, too.
5. The mixes come from, among others, Fred Everything, Demarkus Lewis, Moodymanc, Pezzner, Nacho Marco and Giom.
6. It’s every bit as groovy and floor-friendly as you want it to be. Hurrah!

Out: This week (as an album – the vinyl samplers have been knocking around for a bit)

Nacho Marco & Paul Hardcastle Jr – Callisto

August 1, 2012 in Singles

Nacho Marco & Paul Hardcastle Jr Callisto King Street Sounds

Coming from Nacho Marco and Paul Hardcastle Jr – yes, the 22yo son of the Paul Hardcastle, of 19 fame – Callisto is as epic a slab of electronic music as you could wish to hear blasting from big speakers outdoors this summer.

Think a mellower, more laidback relative of Garnier’s The Man With The Red Face and you’re not far off: there’s that same feel of constant progression, and parping live sax galore. Remix-wise, there’s a Dub which is considerably more tech-y and percussive, plus a Forteba Remix which goes the other way, being a languid, beach-friendly affair with added Spanish guitars.

Those of you lucky enough to be packing a record bag/CD wallet/WAV folder and heading off to Ibiza should probably, y’know, put this in it.
