Mike Montano – Romina

April 24, 2013 in Singles

Mike Montan Romina UM RecordsWe left off last night with Marvin Zeyss, where I mentioned his previous work on Untitled Music/UM Records. And lo and behold, here he is again on remix duties on their latest offering, which comes from Mike Montano.

The Original of Romina is a dreamy, midtempo deep houser probably best suited to warm-up or post-club play, while Zeyss’s refix beefs up the beats for more obvious dancefloor appeal. Elsewhere on the EP you get three mixes of Nice & Easy (So High): the original features skittering, near-bruk beats, a female vocal telling us the young lady in question wants to get high and a nice liquid-y b-line. The Soulight Untitled Remix is a more driving, heads-down take with a (different) big throbbing bassline, ideally suited to afterhours play, while DJ Deeka’s Ten To Nine Remix is a sparser, dubbier affair.

It’s the latter track that stands out for me but as is UM’s wont this is quality deep house tackle all round.

Presslaboys – Incomplete

January 3, 2011 in Singles

Presslaboys IncompleteMore midtempo tech-house chugginess here. Incomplete comes in Transition and Groove Dub mixes, both by Mike Montano. The former features vocal snips that may or may not be taken from Skyy’s Here’s To You (if they are, they’ve been heavily treated), subtle funky geetar stabs and a pulsing, forward-leaning rhythm that brings early Underworld to mind. The Groove Dub, meanwhile, is a more tripped-out, spacier and slightly less frenetic take.

There’s a lot of music like this around at the moment – stripped, chuggy, Berlin-y – but still, Incomplete should keep your floor grooving along nicely. Job done, then.
