M-Capio – We’re Just Passing Through

January 2, 2014 in Singles

M-Capio We're Just Passing Through Aspect AudioFour quite varied mixes on offer of this latest from UK producer M-Capio.

In its Original form, We’re Just Passing Through is a pleasantly lolloping deep house roller with both disco and lounge-y overtones. Lee Hodge’s remix is a more spangled, proggy affair, while Nacho Riveros goes for a Balearic-ish fusion of deep and prog flavas. Bringing the EP to a close is the Luv Boutique Dub, an afterhours-friendly, stripped-back pass powered along by tuff, raw percussion.

Again, it’s the Original for me here, but the Nacho Riveros rub comes a close second.

M-Capio – Dot Dash EP

October 13, 2013 in Singles

M-Capio Dot Dash EP Plain Sound RecordingsTime for a change of pace now, with an EP packed full of dusty, lo-fi beats from M-Capio, AKA Irish producer Jonny Mac.

“After several deep and tech EPs, this time I’m getting back to my roots with some trip-hop, dub and disco beats,” Jonny told me in his email, and yeah, that just about covers it. Neon Dub is a slo-mo skanker for which my notes read “laidback stoner beats”, Sandy Says puts extensive spoken Obama samples over what sound like distorted trombone samples and a wonky, scratchy backbeat your average Bay Area backpacker would be proud of , while finally Hills Of Funk is livelier, funkier number with an 80s disco sound palette that gets a bit Axel F in places.

Neon Dub is the standout for me but as changes of pace go this’ll do nicely all round.

Out: This week

About: This comes on Plain Sound Recordings, a Denver-based label who haven’t featured on TIWWD until tonight. They describe their remit as “house, techno and abstract composition” so I’m guessing this falls into the latter category! To find out more, hit ’em up on Facebook and/or Soundcloud.

Anchoret – Stigma

September 1, 2013 in Singles

Anchoret Stigma Kiss And KryBack in April, I singled out Anchoret’s mix of Loz Goddard’s Headcase EP for special praise… now here he is again under his own steam with this single for Kiss And Kry Records.

There are four mixes of Stigma to choose from. The original’s an instrumental cut blending deep, tech and progressive elements, Loz Goddard’s remix is the glitchiet, most wonked-out disco-house you ever heard (seriously), M-Capio takes us into more dark n’ driving techno territory, but the standout for me I think is the James Dax & Ninjutsu Remix, which opens with warbling, Carpenter-esque analogue synths and then mixes up the tech, prog and Italo elements until you come out dazed but smiling eight minutes later.

Out: This week

About: Kiss And Kry seem to mostly live on Facebook, or you can find Anchoret himself, AKA Joe Zazini, on Soundcloud.
