Kiano & Below Bangkok – Deep Thoughts [Remixed]

November 1, 2015 in Albums

Kiano & Below Bangkok Deep Thoughts Remixed Ready Mix RecordsTracks from the Croatian duo’s 2014 artist album get remixed by a host of respected deep house producers here, with predictably fine results!

It should be pointed out that this isn’t a ‘remix album’ as such, in the sense that they haven’t taken all of the original album’s 16 tracks, and had each one remixed. Rather, these are the other mixes you’d have gotten hold of had you purchased all four singles from the album – namely Love & Happiness (with remixes from Tom Lown and Pano Manara), Rolling (Bourne, Nico Mendez, Cosmic Cowboys), 49 Steps (Tamandua Twist, Savvas) and In The Heat Of The Night (Ilias Katelanos, Distant Relatives JHB). But just look at that line-up. If you’re a lover of proper underground deep house you’ll be salivating already… I can only add that you’re quite right to do so so!

An unmissable selection of sumptuous deep grooves, with cuts for the floor, cuts for the headphones and not a duff mix in sight.

Kiano & Below Bangkok – Love & Happiness

July 5, 2015 in Singles

Kiano & Below Bangkok Love & Happiness Ready Mix RecordsAaaaand finally for tonight… some deeply chilled house vibes courtesy of Ready Mix Records.

In its Original form, Love & Happiness is a midtempo, almost bordering on slo-mo cut with muted kicks, beautifully atmospheric chords and no burning desire to ‘do’ very much at all. Pano Manara supplies a more floor-friendly refix, with the drums brought a little further forward and a little more action in the keys department, while Tom Lown heads in the opposite direction on his languid Looking For The Sun Dub. Finally, the lazy, trippy, slightly early-Orb-ish Chill Mix will cater for those in search of downtempo satisfactio; it’s also the only mix to feature a vocal, which has some American guy talking about the different meanings of the word ‘love’.

Quality stuff as ever from Ready Mix… and a suitably mellow end to a busy Sunday night’s blogging.

Out: This week (on general release)

Rishi K – Alone Again

June 21, 2015 in Singles

Rishi K Alone Again EDM UndergroundA RIDICULOUSLY good EP from our old friend Rishi here!

Four mixes of Alone Again to choose from, and not a duff cut in sight. The original’s a deceptively lively and frankly gorgeous deep houser with sweeping pads, an “every time… hold my hand” female vocal sample that loops just enough throughout and a nagging little top-end synth hook. Addex brings us a more stripped-down n’ dubby mix for later floors, Kiano & Below Bangkok’s Dub Mix is more of a sofa-surfer and then finally Hungary’s Specdub adds some light proggy tinges.

And like I said, all four mixes are very cool indeed. So much so that I’m not picking a fave – I’m just gonna tell you that you need to buy this record immediately.

Out: This week on Beatport, everywhere else from 29 June

Kiano & Below Bangkok – In The Heat Of The Night

December 9, 2014 in Singles

Kiano & Below Bangkok In The Heat Of The Night Ready Mix RecordsSome very deep house grooves to start us off tonight, coming from Ready Mix Records.

Four mixes of In The Heat Of The Night to choose from. The original’s a laidback, late-night and sultry affair with a soulful male vocal. The Instrumental’s self-explanatory, obviously, while Ilias Katelanos strips things back and adds some spoken male vocal samples. But the pick of an admittedly fine crop all round, to these ears, is the sparse, dubby and atmospheric Distant Relatives JHB Remix.

Ready Mix seldom disappoint, and they certainly don’t here.

Out: This week on Beatport, everywhere else from 22 Dec.

Various – Autumn Air Vol 3

October 24, 2014 in Singles

Autumn Air Vol 3 DeepWit RecordingsWe kick off tonight with some very deep house grooves, coming courtesy of those ever-reliable providers of the same, Denmark’s DeepWit Recordings.

Kiano & Below Bangkok open the EP with the aptly named Lounging, a gentle, downtempo affair made to soothe battle-weary souls. Johannes’s I Wanna Move is quite a lively deep houser with some very cool understated organs and garage-y skip in its step, while Perfect World by Amir is late-night sofa surfer par excellence. La Rose drag us back to the dancefloor with Deep Overdose, while the EP ends with Agus Monteverde’s Sap, a soulful deep house groover that wouldn’t sound out of place in a Harley & Muscle set.

It’s all good, to coin a phrase, but Perfect World and I Wanna Move are the killers.
