Luthia – Ego EP

December 6, 2015 in Singles

Luthia Ego EP Innocent Music DeepTo play us out tonight, as the witching hour approaches and the working week beckons, some sterling deep techno/minimal vibes from those ever-reliable providers of the same, Innocent Music Deep.

Ego itself is up first, a dubby, house-y cut with a vocal that sounds like Mr Spock describing his first acid trip. Bajka, which follows, is an eight-minute slow-burner that comes on like a proggy take on minimal, and that’s got ‘set opener’ written all over it. And then finally there’s Misli with its tinny rave beats, deceptively funky synth bassline and string of cavernous, spangled breakdowns.

Definitely nothing here you could play at a wedding. But if it’s late-night smoking tackle you’re after…

Philipp Lichtbrau – Dreaming EP

September 24, 2015 in Singles

Philipp Lichtblau Dreaming EP Innocent Music DeepCream-crackered today! So just the one review for you tonight, as Philipp Lichtblau serves up some deep techno/minimal vibes for Slovenia’s Innocent Music Deep.

On the A, Dreaming itself is a mid-paced cut with deceptively heavy kicks underpinning what’s otherwise quite a sparse, twitchy kinda track, with disembodied, whispering voices lending the whole thing a vaguely disquieting air.  Flip it over and you’ll find (apppropriately enough!) Tired, which despite the name is a little livelier, with heavily reverbed piano chords, hefty bass drops and glitchy FX a-gogo.

There’s no shortage of stuff like this around, admittedly, but fans of the genre should be more than satisfied with this particular example.

Dolfeels – Broke That Night EP

March 12, 2015 in Singles

Dolfeels Broke Last Night Innocent Music DeepLastly for tonight, some fine deep house/minimal shizzle from Slovenia’s Innocent Music Deep.

It’s a three-track affair. Broke That Night itself is a cerebral, leftfield-leaning deep houser, all warm unhurried beats, lingering pads and nonsensical spoken female vocal. Voodoo marries crunchier drums with all manner of muted, filtered sounds to create something truly luxuriant, hypnotic and enveloping, while finally The Light is a lazy, dubby late-night headnodder with an understated spoken male vocal (in French, I think, but it’s hard to tell) that drifts in and out occasionally.

Regular readers will know I’m a fan of Innocent’s usual deep/dub techno and minimal stylings anyway, but when they add a little house-y flava to the mix, as here, the results are really rather splendid.

Rodrigo DP & Knowbru – Memory EP

December 3, 2014 in Singles

Rodrigo DP & Knowbru Memory EP Innocent Music DeepDeeper shades of house/techno here, on what is only the fourth release from a new offshoot of Slovenia’s Innocent Music called, appropriately enough, Innocent Music Deep.

The Buenos Aires duo of Rodrigo DP & Knowbru are at the controls, serving up three original cuts. Losing Memory is up first, a languid, instrumental affair with dub and tech elements balanced nicely. The Trip Goes On is a little more driving yet still has a fairly laidback, cinematic feel, with downpitched spoken male vox buried deep in in the mix. Taking the gold for yours truly though is We Don’t Know, 6m 37s of intricately shufflin’ beats, droning synth tones, deep techno-style FX and lashings of reverb. Sonic Radox for stoned ravers!
