Roby Deep – Road To The Unknown

May 16, 2016 in Singles

Roby Deep Road To The Unknown Submarine VibesAnother European label who always come up with the deeper goods are Bosnia’s Submarine Vibes, and they don’t disappoint with this single from Slovenia’s Roby Deep.

One thing I like about Submarine Vibes is that you never know quite what particular shade of deepness you’re going to get. In the case of Road To The Unknown in its original form, we’re headed off to that place where deep house, prog and chill-out intertwine. The Yarosslav Remix opts for much more obviously danceable beats, but then confuses with a minute-long beatless breakdown, after which a hypnotic, vaguely Underworld-y half-sung/half-spoken male vocal loop joins the party.

The standout for yours truly, though, is the throbbing, dubby Hibrid Remix – sheer late-night driftaway deep house bliss…

Delskiz – Soundscaper

August 27, 2015 in Singles

Delskiz Soundscaper EP Submarine VibesSome fine deep techno vibes to start with tonight courtesy of ever-checkable Bosnian label Submarine Vibes.

In its original form, Soundscaper is quite a melodic, prog-tinged affair… and very aptly named! Remix-wise, the Hibrid Remix is a chunkier, slightly darker pass than the original while the Ki.Mi. Remix takes us into dubbier pastures. Completing the package is (ahem) Split Panties, another uber-deep, dub-tinged affair with a hypnotic/amniotic/sub-aquatic kinda feel.

All good, but the Ki.Mi. Remix of the title track takes the gold.

Chris Robin & Jonas Saalbach – Fridge Slap

August 2, 2015 in Singles

Chris Robin & Jonas Saalbach Fridge Slap Submarine VibesFinally for tonight, some very fine, very deep house music from those ever-reliable providers of the same, Submarine Vibes, who are based over in Bosnia & Herzegovina.

Three mixes of Fridge Slap to choose from. The original starts out bordering on slo-mo disco with its clappy beats and cowbell, then drifts off slowly into the late-night chillin’ zone with some lovely chorus’d female “aah-aahs” and high, fluttering synth notes. Hibrid’s remix (NB: nothing to do with veteran prog-breaks outfit Hybrid) is a more ambient-leaning take with a touch of the Northern Exposures about it, while completing the package is a slightly more floor-friendly rub from Jelly For The Babies that brings the 80s sci-fi bassline further to the fore.

The original and JFTB share top honours but as ever from Submarine Vibes this is quality stuff all round.

Hibrid – Good Night My Dreams EP

January 3, 2015 in Singles

Hibrid Good Night My Dreams EP Family GroovesOnce known purely for rollicking, good-time tech house bizniss, Croatia’s Family Grooves have of late made several excursions into deeper house waters. But this is without a doubt their deepest offering thus far.

The Original mix of Good Night My Dreams is a, well, dreamy, late-night affair, so laidback it’d be almost horizontal were it not for the solid kicks that underpin its lingering synth washes and sub-aquatic bleeps. Cravings supply a Melodic Touch refix that transforms it into a bassy, slightly trippy gem that’d be perfect for warm-up or afterhours play, while Skerdi M & Angelo M & Funkyfish opt for a chunky, slightly proggy vibe on their remix. Completing the EP is  The Way Out, another seriously deep and bottom-heavy groove with plenty of space in the production.

Regular readers will know that I’m a fan of Family Grooves generally, but this is very possibly the label’s finest release to date. The Original and Cravings Melodic Touch rubs, in particular, should satisfy even the most chin-strokey of deep house snobs!

Out: This week (on general release)
