DZNB – Back In Time

June 19, 2014 in Singles

DZNB Back In Time Highway RecordsThree mixes to choose from on this latest from Moscow’s Highway Records, and if you’re thinking the name DZNB sounds familiar, that’s because this is in fact none other that D’Zeta & Basile, who are certainly no strangers to this blog.

In its original form, Back In Time is a chunky, tech-tinged deep houser with several different, in some cases quite rave-y (hence, presumably, the title) and all effectively word-free vocal samples jockeying for position atop crisp beats, an insistent three-note descending bassline that acquires a little bit of an acid-y edge as the track progresses and damped-down sci-fi alarm sounds. The Demarzo Remix goes down more of a peak-time route with no-nonsense tech drums and an added male “take it back” vocal loop, while finally the Julian M Tek3 Remix looks to classic Chi-town for percussive inspiration, while using a bit less of the various vocal samples and adding some sweeping synth atmospherics.

It’s the Original I’m loving most but the Demarzo Remix isn’t far behind.

Out: This week

Dzeta N’ Basile – Don’t You

April 3, 2013 in Singles

Dzeta N' Basile Don't You King StreetWe seem to have (inadvertently) gotten on something of a techno/acid tip tonight (see Detroit Grand Pubahs and Sam Chorlton reviews below). So it’s quite handy that this latest from Dzeta N’ Basile is the most techno-tastic outing I’ve heard from the Italian pair to date.

Well, perhaps ‘techno-tastic’ is putting it a bit strong! But as the hype sheet has it: “if you like your house minimal, slightly trippy and repetitive, this tune is for you”. Instrumental bar a “don’t you want it?” vocal sample that comes in halfway through, in its Original form Don’t You ain’t nothing but a simple looping, techy groove topped with understated keys. S’good, but it’s the Jay Tripwire Remix that’s more exciting to these ears, as the Canadian housemeister introduces all kinds of atmospherics and FX to take the track into serious ‘journey’ territory.

Out: This week, but only on Beatport – full release date TBC.
