Igor Vicente – Jasmin

October 25, 2015 in Singles

Igor Vicente Jasmin The One And Only/Decay RecordsAnother brand new label here, as the UK’s Decay Records introduce a new vinyl-only imprint called The One And Only.

Belgian producer Igor Vicente is the man at the controls for the label’s single-sided debut, with Jasmin a track that’ll please those who like their deep house just a little on the proggy side. An atmospheric, meandering affair, it’s got a tuffer, techno-y edge to the drums and (eventually) an understated, vaguely Billie Ray Martin-ish female vocal, and it’s natural home will surely be on weary floors circa 5am…

About: Can’t seem to find a website or social media for The One And Only just yet. I’m sure they’ll be along in due course, but in the meantime you can find parent company Decay Records – which is Davide Zeta of D’Zeta & Basile fame’s label – on Soundcloud and Facebook, or at their own website.

DZNB – Double Impact EP

August 24, 2014 in Singles

DZNB Double Impact Turquoise BlueSome typically high-quality deep house grooves here from DZNB, the duo still probably better known to most by their old/’other’ name of D’Zeta & Basile.

In its Original form, Double Impact itself is an unhurried deep house drifter with a distinctly ‘vintage Chi-town’ kinda feel. Dan Curtin takes care of remix honours for this one, upping the tempo slightly and making more use of the female vocal elements. Turn Around is a somewhat less retro-leaning affair that tops its insistent synth pulse and minimalist percussion with snatches of indecipherable spoken vocal, but top honours go to the Ekkohaus Remix of the same – an object lesson in stripped-back, dubbed-out, deep house languidity.

Sofa-surfin’ grooves of the highest order!

DZNB – Back In Time

June 19, 2014 in Singles

DZNB Back In Time Highway RecordsThree mixes to choose from on this latest from Moscow’s Highway Records, and if you’re thinking the name DZNB sounds familiar, that’s because this is in fact none other that D’Zeta & Basile, who are certainly no strangers to this blog.

In its original form, Back In Time is a chunky, tech-tinged deep houser with several different, in some cases quite rave-y (hence, presumably, the title) and all effectively word-free vocal samples jockeying for position atop crisp beats, an insistent three-note descending bassline that acquires a little bit of an acid-y edge as the track progresses and damped-down sci-fi alarm sounds. The Demarzo Remix goes down more of a peak-time route with no-nonsense tech drums and an added male “take it back” vocal loop, while finally the Julian M Tek3 Remix looks to classic Chi-town for percussive inspiration, while using a bit less of the various vocal samples and adding some sweeping synth atmospherics.

It’s the Original I’m loving most but the Demarzo Remix isn’t far behind.
