Miami Ice – Blackout EP

June 2, 2014 in Singles

Miami Ice Blackout EP Freche FruchtePlaying catch-up tonight with a look at a few things I didn’t find time for last week (things were a bit crazy last week), starting with this two-track, four-mix EP from Miami Ice.

On the A, Blackout itself is a sparse groove consisting mostly of drums, a looping female “I want to know” vocal and cowbells, joined eventually by some cascading, vaguely YMO-ish synths. Pete Dafeet’s Throwback Mix thereof nudges it for me though, riding slamming kicks with gorgeously raw-sounding organ stabs. Flip it over and you’ll find Sometimes. In its Original form a perfectly playable but slightly standard-issue deep/tech houser with a downpitched male rap vocal, again it’s the remix that takes top honours for yours truly as Leigh D Oliver takes us on a far smoother ride, adding some lovely warm pads and soulful male vox that nod towards Soul II Soul & Chaka’s All Good.

Out: Last week
