Karol XVII & MB Valence – Subway Station 1 EP

February 21, 2014 in Singles

Karol XVII & MB Valence Subway Station 1 EP Loco RecordsSeems like an age since this Polish duo featured on TIWWD, but anyway, here they are again, back once again like renegade masters with this three-track EP for Loco Records.

Ain’t Nobody is up first, which has nothing to do with the Chaka classic and instead can best be described as 90s-style vocal house, essentially, but with a more contemporary sound palette. Obviousness is a deeper, more small hours-friendly joint with scratchy vinyl sounds and weirdly warping synth noises, while bringing the EP to a close is Panic!, a slightly tuffer affair with a distorted “we’re dragons in the air” (?) vocal sample and some very now-sounding buzzy bass. Hear this at an afterhours party and you’d have no call to ‘hang the DJ’ at all…

Ain’t Nobody is the standout for me but with Karol & MB at the helm you know the quality meter’s gonna be set high throughout.

Out: This week
